Summer Exhibition in Germany

This is already the second exhibition of Marika's sculptures in ‘Gallery Flow Fine Art’. The gallery is located between Köln and Düsseldorf in a 17th century mansion, the ‘Open Sky House’ at the Rheinstraße 54, Hitdorf. On show are also digital transformed nude photography from the Welshman John David and lithography and screen prints from Finnish artist Eeva Hauss.
The exhibition is open Tues-Fri 2 - 5 pm until 12th September. On Sunday by appointment, please call before: 0177 – 4124069.

Dit is reeds de tweede tentoonstelling van Marika's beelden in de galerie ‘Flow Fine Art’. De galerie is gehuisvest in een 17e eeuws herenhuis, het ‘Open Sky House’ aan de Rheinstraße 54 te Hitdorf.
Eveneens tentoongesteld zijn de digitaal getransformeerde foto's van de Welshman John David en litho's en zeefdrukken van de Finse kunstenares Eeva Hauss.
De tentoonstelling is open tot 12 september, van dinsdag tot en met vrijdag, van 14 tot 17 uur. Op zondag enkel na telefonische afspraak op +49-177-4124069.

‘Out of the Shell' is an appropriate name for this sculpture while the garden is in full blossom. We like to share this beauty with you!

‘Ontbolstering’ is wel een heel toepasselijke naam tussen zo'n bloeiende rhododendron. We willen u zo'n schoonheid niet onthouden!

Three weeks old and his parents buy him a sculpture already! Even his announcement was a handwritten calligraphy. You can't start early in off with art education they must be thinking... Of course you can plant a tree for such a memorable event but isn't this more flexible?
Why weren't we that lucky?

Pas drie weken oud en zijn ouders kochten hem reeds een sculptuur! Zelfs de geboortemelding heeft met zijn handgeschreven calligrafie een kunstzinnige waarde. Je kan echt niet vroeger beginnen met kunstopvoeding... Je zou natuurlijk ook een boom kunnen planten voor zo'n belangrijke gebeurtenis maar een sculptuur verhuis je wel mee.
Wij hadden dat toen ook wel op prijs gesteld!

Inside or Outside?

How big a sculpure looks is dependant on the surrounding space. How bigger the space how smaller the sculpture looks and vice versa. Some formats however are more flexible and can adapt to the space more easily - as shown here.

Een beeld is afhankelijk van de ruimte er omheen. Hoe groter de ruimte hoe kleiner het beeld lijkt en omgekeerd. Bepaalde formaten weten zich echter flexibel aan te passen aan de verschillende ruimtes - zoals het voorbeeld hier toont.

Marika Bäumler's ‘Dreamless Sleep’ on the left points to a stage of being where no longer mental activity is present and only non-duality is present. It was created in 2002 and is 22 cm large.
Mimmo Paladino created 'I Dormienti', a series of 33 figures, life-sized. It's a so-called installation in the ruins of an abbey. The sculptures are made of terracotta fragments placed together in different ways and, as the ruins do, leave a feeling of decay (Hiroshima, Pompei?). The archetype design however looks like a window dummy. But have a look yourself and form your own opinion, not that of the Popes of Art.

About states of consciousness

De 'Droomloze Slaap' van Marika Bäumler werd in 2002 gecreëerd en is 22 cm breed. Het verwijst naar die allerdiepste slaap waar de toestand van schijnbare dualiteit verdwenen is en alleen het Absolute Bewijstzijn overblijft.

Mimmo Paladino creëerde met 'I Dormienti' een reeks van 33 levensgrote terracotta figuren die in een beschermende foetushouding liggen - alsof ze in een diepe slaap verzonken zijn (dixit de verklaring op de Koksijde website)

Het lijkt geen toevalligheid dat de ruines van de abdij uit 1138 gekozen zijn als kader voor de 'installatie'.
De beelden die uit eenzelfde vorm schijnen te komen zijn telkens op een andere manier samengesteld of bewerkt en verwijzen meer naar verval en angst (Hiroshima, Pompei?) dan naar een weldoend verdwijnen uit de dualiteit.
Het zogenaamde archetypische (het oermodel dat ten grondslag ligt aan latere varianten) van de beelden gaat echter niet veel verder dan de vormgeving van een etalagepop.
Maar gaat u vooral zelf kijken naar Beaufort Outside zodat u een eigen mening kan vormen - en die hoeft niet die van mij of die van de kunstpausen te zijn...

Nemo: a being without an ego

Inner Silence is the central theme of Marika Bäumler's creations. The human figures while being figurative in style express that in an non-realistic way. They tend to attract the viewer into that feeling and create a still-point in the environment where they are shown.
As Ken Wilber pointed out: “The truest and purest art is contemplative art, art born in fire of spiritual epiphany and fanned by meditative awareness.”
Tibetan Buddhists speak of the capacity of certain artworks to plant seeds of Liberation in the mind stream of the viewer. This is the highest aspiration for art.
For receptive people, mystic art can help catalyze their creative and spiritual path.

Het centrale thema van Marika Bäumler's figuratief-irrealistische ceramische creaties is de innerlijke stilte. Meestal wordt de menselijk figuur gebruikt om dit weer te geven. Van het resultaat gaat een expressie uit die de beschouwer meetrekt in dat gevoel. Op die manier wordt het werk een rustpunt in de omgeving ervan.
Ken Wilber zei reeds: “Contemplatieve kunst is de meest waarachtige en zuivere kunst, zij wordt geboren in het vuur van een spirituele openbaring en aangewakkerd door meditatief bewustzijn.”
Tibetaanse boedhisten beweren dat bepaalde kunstwerken bekwaam zijn om het zaad van Bevrijding te planten in de geest van de beschouwer. Wat het hoogste na te streven doel is van de kunst.
Voor ontvankelijke mensen kan mystieke kunst dan ook een katalysator zijn voor hun creatieve en spirituele pad.

‘Thuis’ (At Home) is a Flemish lifestyle magazine. It published a five-pages interview with pictures of Marika Bäumler's ceramic sculptures.
The cover page shows the studio with a work in progress and the reflection of the surrounding trees.

Het lifestyle magazine ‘Thuis’ publiceerde vijf pagina's over Marika Bäumler's ceramische beeldsculpturen. De titelpagina toont vanuit de boomrijke omgeving het atelier met een werk dat nog in uitvoering is.
