Summer Exhibition in Germany

This is already the second exhibition of Marika's sculptures in ‘Gallery Flow Fine Art’. The gallery is located between Köln and Düsseldorf in a 17th century mansion, the ‘Open Sky House’ at the Rheinstraße 54, Hitdorf. On show are also digital transformed nude photography from the Welshman John David and lithography and screen prints from Finnish artist Eeva Hauss.
The exhibition is open Tues-Fri 2 - 5 pm until 12th September. On Sunday by appointment, please call before: 0177 – 4124069.

Dit is reeds de tweede tentoonstelling van Marika's beelden in de galerie ‘Flow Fine Art’. De galerie is gehuisvest in een 17e eeuws herenhuis, het ‘Open Sky House’ aan de Rheinstraße 54 te Hitdorf.
Eveneens tentoongesteld zijn de digitaal getransformeerde foto's van de Welshman John David en litho's en zeefdrukken van de Finse kunstenares Eeva Hauss.
De tentoonstelling is open tot 12 september, van dinsdag tot en met vrijdag, van 14 tot 17 uur. Op zondag enkel na telefonische afspraak op +49-177-4124069.

A portrait is at his best an artistic interpretation of the person by the artist.Here the honoured Mayor shows the resemblance with her portrait and the symbolic/realistic background shows the key elements of the city.It is an oil painting on canvas and measures 80 by 100 cm. About Portraits

Een portret is op zijn best een artistieke interpretatie van de persoon door de kunstenaar.
Hier toont de ere-burgemeester na de huldiging de gelijkenis met haar statieportret en de symbolisch/realistische achtergrond toont de sleutelkenmerken van de stad.

The City of Heist-op-den-Berg (Flanders - Belgium) honours Mw Diane Verbist-Vandenwijngaerden for her 24 years of public service. Her painting (by Marika Bäumler) will be hung in the townhall.

Heist-op-den-Berg huldigt Mw Diane Verbist-Vandenwijngaerden voor haar 24 jaar lange burgemeesterschap. Het schilderij dat Marika Bäumler in opdracht maakte wordt hier onthuld en zal in de gemeenteraad gehangen worden.

Three weeks old and his parents buy him a sculpture already! Even his announcement was a handwritten calligraphy. You can't start early in off with art education they must be thinking... Of course you can plant a tree for such a memorable event but isn't this more flexible?
Why weren't we that lucky?

Pas drie weken oud en zijn ouders kochten hem reeds een sculptuur! Zelfs de geboortemelding heeft met zijn handgeschreven calligrafie een kunstzinnige waarde. Je kan echt niet vroeger beginnen met kunstopvoeding... Je zou natuurlijk ook een boom kunnen planten voor zo'n belangrijke gebeurtenis maar een sculptuur verhuis je wel mee.
Wij hadden dat toen ook wel op prijs gesteld!

Raku: Fire and Smoke

Raku originated in Japan in the late 16th century. The raku vessels were and still are used in the traditional tea ceremony. It's a low fire technique where the bisqued work is heated to a red hot temperature of 1000°C and then quickly taken out of the kiln and reduced in wood shaving, newspaper or a similar combustible material.

De Raku lage temperatuurtechniek (1000°C) ontstond in de late zestiende eeuw in Tokyo en word nog steeds gebruikt voor het vaatwerk in de traditionele theeceremonie. De plotse overgang van de oven naar de buitentemperatuur doet het glazuur barsten waarna tijdens het afkoelen de rook van o.a. houtsnippers voor verkleuring zorgt.

Taking a view from a distance

The bigger the sculpture the more distance one needs to have an overview. When you have a rather small studio it helps when you can go outside to have an overview. At this point the complete figure is not finished yet.

Hoe groter het beeld waaraan je werkt hoe meer afstand je nodig hebt om het totaal te overschouwen. Bij een klein atelier helpt het dus dat je naar buiten kan om er een goed zicht op te krijgen. Op dit moment is de volledige figuur nog in opbouw.

‘Keramiek’ interview

The Dutch professional magazine ‘Keramiek’ had an interview with Marika Bäumler. Besides biography, professional knowledge and vision, the business side of art was not forgotten. The difference between ceramic art and painting shows also in the financial rewards.

Het vakblad van de nederlandse beroepsvereniging ‘Keramiek’ interviewde Marika Bäumler.
Naast de biografie, de vakkennis en de visie werd er ook ingegaan op de zakelijke kant van keramiek en werd er een vergelijking gemaakt met het verschil in financiële waardering tussen schilderkunst en keramiek.

Drying is part of the process

While one final clay model is drying underneath a plastic another creation can be started. A slow drying process (sometimes more than two weeks, depending on the thickness of the clay) prevents the clay from cracking (the outside dries faster than the inside).

Terwijl een definitief kleimodel onder plastic staat te drogen kan een andere creatie opgestart worden. Dit trage droogproces (soms meer dan twee weken, afhankelijk van de kleidikte) voorkomt dat de klei barst (de buitenzijde droogt sneller dan de binnenzijde).
